Senior Backend (Java) Engineer - Oviva Team

We are currently looking for a Senior Backend (Java) Engineer with strong skills and proven experience, ready to dive into a fast-growing startup established in Switzerland, Germany, France, the UK, and Serbia, for a full-time engagement.

You would be joining Oviva, an award-winning digital healthcare provider that is transforming how dietitians support patients with diet- and lifestyle-related health conditions, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. By combining cutting-edge proprietary technology with human-centered care, Oviva is enabling new models of treatment and making traditional nutritional counselling more effective.

Their Engineering team is made up of full-stack developers, software engineers, and data engineers—all passionate problem-solvers focused on building scalable, impactful solutions. They work on both patient-facing applications and internal web platforms.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be key in shaping Oviva’s technology platform, building scalable solutions that empower healthcare professionals and patients.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and maintain a cutting-edge software platform, implementing new features and enhancing existing ones.
• Scale Oviva’s technology to serve hundreds of thousands of active patients.
• Take ownership of the platform - from source code to production - ensuring high quality, security, and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional squads (Product, Engineering) to refine technical solutions that drive real impact.
• Fix and prevent issues, conducting thorough root cause analyses.

What you’ll need:

• Expert on backend technologies such as Java 17+, Jakarta, Quarkus, Kotlin, SQL, or similar.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop scalable solutions.
• Architectural Thinking: Strong engineering fundamentals and a deep understanding of solutions at scale.
• Driven by a strong curiosity in AI and cutting-edge tech, you're hands-on, experimenting with AI-powered tools such as Cursor for coding and optimization.
• Project Managing & Decision Making: Collecting feedback, making roadmap decisions, and implementing features without needing a PM/PO to tell you what to do.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams, with business stakeholders and convey technical insights clearly.
• Strong tendency to automate tasks.
• A team-oriented mindset, thriving in an agile environment.
• You are fluent in English.
